Google is gearing up for the October 4 launch of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. These highly anticipated devices have been the subject of numerous leaks over the past few months, and a recent leaked promotional video unveiled some intriguing camera enhancements. Now, fresh information from a report suggests that both devices will come with higher price tags when released in the US market.
As reported by 9to5Google, the Pixel 8 will have a starting price of $699, while the Pixel 8 Pro will commence at $999. This marks a uniform $100 price hike across the range compared to the introductory prices of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. It was previously indicated in a separate report that Google was also contemplating raising the prices of the Pixel 8 series in the European market.
This pricing adjustment follows Google’s earlier decision to increase the cost of the Pixel 7a by $50 in comparison to its predecessor, the Pixel 6a. However, in the case of the Pixel 7a, this price increase was warranted due to notable hardware improvements, including a new camera sensor, a 90Hz display, and the inclusion of wireless charging.
The specifics of the hardware upgrades in store for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are still under wraps. Nevertheless, leaks have hinted that there may be no changes to the primary camera sensor on both devices. Other speculated enhancements encompass autofocus capabilities for the selfie camera and the ultrawide sensor on the Pixel 8, as well as the introduction of the new and improved Tensor G3 chip.
It’s noteworthy that, despite the price increase, the base models of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will continue to offer 128GB of storage. In contrast, many competing flagship smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S23 and iPhone 15 Pro Max now begin at 256GB.
